Besides Cars & Coffee, and launching our new showroom and waiting area (#mountunehub), the development team have been working hard this month to bring you more mountune performance parts, across a range of models.
Unsurprisingly, whilst with us most recently, Tim couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel of our MR265 to review, and despite the rain, gave the car a good run-in down the nearby Essex country lanes. “What a blast, this is ridiculous” he exclaimed as he got to grips with the car's “go-kart” feel.
Shmee noted that the Fiesta wanted to “dart down countryside lanes” and admired the MR265 upgrade kit with its hybrid turbocharger, calibration, large capacity intercooler and high-flow intake for its additional 30 percent performance increase over the standard car.
“I knew it was going to feel quick, but not this quick. What a barrel of laughs. Genuine hilarity. Brilliant, brilliant package – I am genuinely loving this,” he laughed.
Shmee told fans that for darting down country roads, “what else would you want to be in?” He added that the Fiesta had opened his eyes to what hot hatches are capable of, noting that: “It's not afraid of lighting up the tyres. It’s a 256bhp fun machine, it’s just entertaining to drive.”
Back at the workshop, Shmee had also opted for further upgrades to his RS, namely the mountune Axle-Back Exhaust system, now fully endorsed by Ford. Filming the process, he said he was surprised by the quick fitment turnaround and couldn't wait for the first start-up of the car once installed. “Oh goodness, that is raspier - I like that a lot - I am very very pleased about this”.
With unpredictable popping and banging as he drove away from the workshop, Shmee took his now noisier RS for a sport mode spin, smiling the whole time. “That’s what we’re talking about there - utterly brilliant - I think I’m in for many many happy miles driving this.”
Commenting that the RS was already brilliant, Shmee added that, complete with the mountune axle-back exhaust, “it’s now even better, which is exactly how we want it!”
Before leaving mountune HQ grinning (again), Shmee went through his list of options of what to do to the car next… I think we’ve got you covered there Tim!
The weather was LA perfect and enthusiasts had their car's spotless for the Tony Harmer photo studio. The event was action packed with RC cars, video games, food trucks, custom T Shirt studio, and just people generally hanging out. Ken Block and Vaughn Gittin JR were also out signing autographs and checking out the rides.
mountune USA were invited to display our RS and the crowd pleasing 250bhp 1968 mountune powered Escort. It was a great event promoting everything awesome about the ST line and we are looking forward to the next Ford Performance ST Meetup... hopefully sooner than later.
Olsbergs MSE driver Kevin Eriksson took the Germany RX win this month in his mountune powered Ford Fiesta ST, claiming his first every victory in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Starting on the second row of the grid in the 2016 final, Eriksson stunned his competitors as he pulled off an epic sideways move from the outside and managed to take the lead, which he retained for the rest of the race.
“I am speechless,” explained Eriksson, who has become the seventh different winner in World RX this year. “I saw Petter lead off the start and planned to stay behind him but then I saw an opportunity to go on the outside and hoped for the best. Somehow it worked! I felt I had really good speed throughout the weekend and to beat these guys you need to be driving at your very best. This weekend, everything came together and we got the consistency I needed to take the win.”
The Ford-based Duratec 4-cylinder turbo engines, designed and built by mountune utilising an Olsbergs MSE head casting, are constantly undergoing vigorous programs of testing and development to further improve the engines performance output and reliability, and have powered the Olsbergs drivers to the podium on numerous occasions claiming four manufacturers and drivers' championship titles between 2011-2014.
Building on the hugely popular Fiesta ST MR230 upgrade kit - which maximised the reliable and safe performance output of the 1.6-litre EcoBoost whilst retaining the standard turbocharger, the MR265 turns things up a few clicks on the performance dial! The MR265 builds upon the hardware found in the MR230 upgrade and in addition adds; a new hybrid turbocharger, high-flow rear intake pipework, silicone hoses and a larger intercooler, all fully optimised by the MR265 calibration, which is installed via our mTune handset.
Maintaining the modular approach where possible, all previously released kit hardware is retained, with the exception of the intercooler. At these higher power and torque outputs, particularly under sustained use, our original intercooler could not match the performance of our full-height variant. Whilst peak power and torque figures may not be achieved - certainly in warmer climates and / or under sustained use, the MR265 upgrade will still be available to MP/MT215 and MR230 owners that have already purchased our original intercooler, at a reduced cost - check out the matrix below for the various MR265 pricing options.
So how does MR265 stack up against our Ford-endorsed MP215 upgrade and our smile-inducing MR230? Well, it packs an additional 50Nm of torque over MP215 and 30Nm above MR230, whilst power is 50PS up when compared to MP215 and 35PS over MR230. There's no doubting that the additional performance is hugely impressive; maintaining and combining impressive turbo response and silky-smooth drivability, with a relentless wall of torque that's mated in harmony with a top end that just wants to just keep revving!
Complete MR265 hardware kit list:
|• High-flow induction kit||• High-flow primary induction hose||• Uprated intercooler|
|• Sports cat / downpipe||• Cat-back exhaust||• High-flow charge pipe kit|
|• mTune handset with MR265 calibration||• high-flow rear intake pipework and hoses||• Hybrid MR265 turbocharger|
|• Camshaft timing tool (revised cam timing)||• New turbo oil feed, gaskets, bolts and studs|
N.B. Prices do not include installation.
At the heart of the MR265 upgrade is the hybrid turbocharger which has been developed by the mountune engineering team and is produced for us by the team at Owen Developments.
The standard unit was at its maximum safe operating limit around 230PS so the turbo has been substantially re-worked to provide the uprated, reliable boost (see what we did there?) in performance required for MR265. Incorporated in the costs of all of the upgrade versions is also a new oil feed, required gaskets, studs and nuts, meaning the only thing the end-user requires is an oil and filter change - this must be performed after the new turbo has been installed and before the engine is run.
Once the final components arrive with us in stock, MR265 will be made immediately available (excluding the USA), so stay tuned to our social channels to be the first to know when you can take the next step in realising your Fiesta ST's full potential!
The rear high-flow intake pipework and our larger intercooler will also be made available to purchase separately.

mountune helps turn up excitement for Fiesta and Focus ST owners in Australia
Ford Australia has this week confirmed the forthcoming availability of the much-heralded power upgrade kits, for both new Fiesta and Focus ST, from mountune Performance.
In addition to mountune’s own European sign-off process, Ford’s Australian engineers have also tested these mountune Performance products at the Lara proving ground, ensuring compliance with local market requirements.
“We’ve been working closely with the various teams within Ford to bring our approved kits to Australian ST owners for some time and this announcement is the culmination of a lot of hard work, from both sides”, says David Moore, General Manager, mountune Performance.
With the mountune kits installed, Fiesta ST power increases to 158kW at 6000rpm and torque is raised to 320Nm at 3000rpm, while Ford Focus ST power increases from 184kW/345Nm to 202kW at 5500rpm and torque is raised to 400Nm at 2750rpm.
Sold under Ford’s new FLA (Licensed Accessories Program), it means both kits are backed by a comprehensive Ford Express New Vehicle Warranty of 3 years/100,000kms when fitted at point of new vehicle sale. Kits fitted after vehicle delivery will benefit from the remainder of the warranty period, or 12-months / 20,000kms – whichever is longer.
“Our Australian R&D and product investments are paying off as we transform Ford in Australia and customers respond to our new vehicles,” says Graeme Whickman, President and CEO, Ford of Australia. “We think our new mountune Performance packs will bring even more excitement as we expand our performance vehicle lineup as part of plans to launch 20 new vehicles by 2020.” Kits will be available from Ford dealers in Australia by mid-year, priced at $2328 for the Fiesta ST MP215 and $4135 for the Focus ST MP275 upgrade, respectively. Prospective customers should contact their local Ford dealer for more information, or to place their order.
