Motorbase Performance has ignited an ambitious challenge on the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship confirming Mat Jackson’s return to the squad alongside 2013 champion Andrew Jordan.
2016 marks Jackson’s seventh consecutive year with the Wrotham-based squad after a sensational return to the BTCC grid for the second half of the 2015 season that saw Jackson and Motorbase amass an incredible seven independent race wins, four outright wins and four further podiums in just four race weekends.
Running under the Motorbase Performance banner for the 2016 campaign, Jackson returns to the grid in the #7 mountune-powered Ford Focus ST with backing from DUO and completes David Bartrum’s formidable driver line-up partnered with new signing Andrew Jordan in the #77 Pirtek Racing Focus.
David Bartrum, Motorbase Performance Team Principal commented; “We're obviously delighted to have Mat back on board for his seventh year with us. Hopefully the number 7 will prove to be our lucky number this year with Mat racing back under his number 7 and Andrew as 77!
“We've known Mat for a long time and enjoyed one of our best periods together at the end of last season so the aim now is to carry that momentum on into this year and to focus on challenging at the front as soon as the first flag drops. There’s work to be done, particularly around the new suspension, but I can honestly say that if I was asked to pair two drivers together then Mat and Andrew would be my first choice all day long. They both tested with us at the end of last year and worked well together; there’s a great dynamic between them so I'm looking forward to seeing how they will bounce off of each other’s experience as time goes on.
Mat Jackson said; “It is great to be returning with Motorbase for 2016 and to be able to carry on from last year’s performance and mount our assault on the championship. I have to say huge thanks to DUO and to Motorbase for their continued loyalty and it’s fantastic to be able to bring DUO in for a full season this year."
We are pleased to announce our involvement with Dextra Racing in the 2016 British Touring Car Championship. Run by Leicestershire based Team Parker, Dextra will run the same Motorbase Performance built Ford Focus ST as last year with some new upgrades, including our mountune 2.0 EcoBoost engine that made the headlines during the 2015 season.
In a video interview at the Autosport Show last month when talking of the Ford Focus and the mountune upgrade, team driver Alex Martin stated that his car will be “identical to Jordan’s” that he knows “the engine is competitive”.
Having now had an opportunity to test last season’s Focus with the new mountune Ford EcoBoost engine fitted, Martin’s clearly pleased with the results; "It’s always a struggle trying to get the power down in a front-wheel drive car, but the new engine is so smooth in how it delivers the power, I can already see how it’s going to massively improve the car. By some amazing feat of engineering, mountune have also managed to completely eradicate any sign of turbo lag too!"
Martin stated that this year, the car has been built to handle more like a touring car of old, and that he is looking forward to the more traditional driving style. Combine that with our mountune NGTC four-cylinder engine and there could be some serious points scored this season.
Already we’re talking about Ford Fair and are pleased to announce that once again, mountune will be headlining Europe's biggest Ford event, being held at Silverstone on Sunday, August 7th.
In our 6th year of being headline sponsor, we’re upping our game and taking things one step further with a host of performance cars and famous faces on our stand and in action on the day, including former BTCC champion and Motorbase Performance / Pirtek Racing's Mr Andrew Jordan.
Phil Weeden, Kelsey Media MD stated, "We’re delighted to have mountune back on board as our headline sponsor for Ford Fair at Silverstone. It’s great to be partnering this event with a respected brand like mountune, which has justifiably earned its position as a market leading specialist in the Ford aftermarket”.
The headline sponsorship of Ford’s biggest European show will form part of a multi-year deal between mountune and Kelsey and will allow our marketing team to build on our existing success with even more exciting features and must-see additions to the show.
Be sure to check back for the latest confirmed event details or to take advantage of the earlybird ticket offer, head over to the official FordFair website.
We are very pleased to announce our involvement with Maximum Motorsport in this year’s British Touring Car Championship. The Midlands based team, led by boss and driver Stewart Lines, will compete with a single Ford Focus ST on the grid this season, powered by mountune.
Lines stated that the car has to be “competitive and on par with the other Ford’s” therefore choosing the mountune 2.0 EcoBoost to ensure the car can reach its full potential. Lines added “We will try our hardest to be the most competitive we possibly can be for 2016. This is the hardest race series in the UK. It’s a challenge, but a very exciting one.”
The team plans to launch a maximum scale attack on the championship this year and we look forward to seeing the car in action.
mountune announces involvement with Team BMR in this year’s British Touring Car Championship as official engine partner...
mountune Racing Technical Director, David Mountain, was approached by BMR Team Manager, and industry friend Alan Cole, in regards to the build of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, following the signing of the deal with Subaru UK & Ireland at the end of 2015.
“We are thrilled to have been chosen to build the engines for BMR’s 2016 championship campaign, and very happy to be partnered with a manufacturer team.” said Mountain. “The development team here at mountune will be working around the clock getting the four Boxer engines ready for pre-season testing and are all looking forward to seeing them perform out on track during this year's championship.”
Team BMR Owner Warren Scott added, "I am very pleased and excited to be working with mountune on the development of the engine and I’m positive that with the very small time frame that we are faced with, they will produce a great engine in time for the Official BTCC Media Day on 22nd March at Donington Park."
Kevin Berry, Team BMR’s Chief Engineer added, "Having looked at all the options available to us for 2016 I am excited that mountune are on board to develop and build our engine for this project.
