Besides Cars & Coffee, and launching our new showroom and waiting area (#mountunehub), the development team have been working hard this month to bring you more mountune performance parts, across a range of models.
Unsurprisingly, whilst with us most recently, Tim couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel of our MR265 to review, and despite the rain, gave the car a good run-in down the nearby Essex country lanes. “What a blast, this is ridiculous” he exclaimed as he got to grips with the car's “go-kart” feel.
Shmee noted that the Fiesta wanted to “dart down countryside lanes” and admired the MR265 upgrade kit with its hybrid turbocharger, calibration, large capacity intercooler and high-flow intake for its additional 30 percent performance increase over the standard car.
“I knew it was going to feel quick, but not this quick. What a barrel of laughs. Genuine hilarity. Brilliant, brilliant package – I am genuinely loving this,” he laughed.
Shmee told fans that for darting down country roads, “what else would you want to be in?” He added that the Fiesta had opened his eyes to what hot hatches are capable of, noting that: “It's not afraid of lighting up the tyres. It’s a 256bhp fun machine, it’s just entertaining to drive.”
Back at the workshop, Shmee had also opted for further upgrades to his RS, namely the mountune Axle-Back Exhaust system, now fully endorsed by Ford. Filming the process, he said he was surprised by the quick fitment turnaround and couldn't wait for the first start-up of the car once installed. “Oh goodness, that is raspier - I like that a lot - I am very very pleased about this”.
With unpredictable popping and banging as he drove away from the workshop, Shmee took his now noisier RS for a sport mode spin, smiling the whole time. “That’s what we’re talking about there - utterly brilliant - I think I’m in for many many happy miles driving this.”
Commenting that the RS was already brilliant, Shmee added that, complete with the mountune axle-back exhaust, “it’s now even better, which is exactly how we want it!”
Before leaving mountune HQ grinning (again), Shmee went through his list of options of what to do to the car next… I think we’ve got you covered there Tim!
Camera in hand, Burton filmed and narrated as the induction kit, crossover duct, re-circulation valve and ECU calibration were fitted before taking it back out on the road, and the grin on his face during the drive summed it up. Describing the difference as “fascinating”, Burton said he could “feel that it's faster immediately”, before adding “You have more of that push back in the seat feel – and that is how you make a cool car, even cooler.”
Already a devotee of the 2016 Focus RS, Burton commented on the increased induction noise, quicker acceleration and improved torque since fitting the Ford approved mountune power upgrade kit, and with a selection of warranted performance parts also available, he considered his next move. “What more could you want?", he asked, “I‘m a big fan of the Focus RS, I love driving it, and now I feel like I love driving it even more,” he added in his video.
Burton was equally as impressed with his tour of mountune HQ – inspecting the engines being built by the racing team and admiring the red and gold Alan Mann Racing MK1 Escort. Spotting the GT40's in the workshop he commented that “you don’t realise how special those are”, and got excited for his incoming new generation Ford GT.
A drive in mountune's own Mk3 RS with the full M380 Power Upgrade Kit, Axle-Back Exhaust System and mountune wheels did even more to win him over. “It's like an addiction,” he says, giving the accelerator a little stab through a tunnel. “It’s a no-brainer really, to come down to mountune. A perfect car made even more perfect with the mountune kit.”
Blown away by the service in the mountune HQ Workshop, Shmee commented that the upgrades are “definitely worth doing”, and smiled in the knowledge that his drive back to London that day would be far more enjoyable after his mountune experience.
How long until Burton is back for the catalogue of additional warranted RS upgrades? Watch this space!
Unveiled in front of thousands of industry professionals and fans alike, Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s latest creation is as expected, wild to the eye, loud, and suitably equipped to destroy tyres in a matter of minutes... all with more than a little help from mountune!
It's fair to say that Vaughn's Focus RS is going to have a seriously tough life, spent largely at full-throttle and very, very sideways! To ensure the highest possible performance, Vaughn knew he needed quality upgrades that would both increase power output and maintain reliability, even in the toughest of scenarios.
Being the exclusive RTR EU parts distributor for Vaughn's Mustang range, the mountune suite of Focus RS upgrades ticked all of the boxes, making mountune his obvious choice.
Vaughn's Focus RS is equipped with:
• High-performance intercooler
• Charge pipe upgrade kit
• High-flow induction kit
• Stage 1 transmission upgrade kit (including Quaife ATB)
• Uprated roll-restrictor
• Braided brake line kit
To make sure everything was working well - even when sideways, we thought what better way than to strap one of the team in next to Vaughn and let him do his thing in the Ford Out Front arena at SEMA 2016.
The victim (our Marketing Manager Rhi), jumped at the chance for some sideways product testing - if you want to see what she saw, or just see Vaughn in action, check out the video below.
The concluding chapter in our three-phase performance parts Focus RS launch has been unveiled this week featuring not one, but two power upgrade kits. A fully Ford-backed FPM375 developed together with Ford Performance, and a mountune M380 version that further increases power and torque and that includes an mTune handset offering multiple new features.
The M380 upgrade uses the induction kit and re-circ valve utilised as part of the Ford-endorsed FPM375 upgrade and in addition includes a Sound Suppression Chamber and an mTune handset, with a retail of £1050 inc. VAT.
Once installed, power is increased to 380PS with 530Nm available from 3250rpm; enough to reduce the 0-62mph time to just 4.4secs!
The M380 kit is applied using an mTune handset which also incorporates additional calibrations and benefits above the standard mTune feature list:
• M380 - mountune M380 calibration
• M380 + EXH - mountune M380 calibration with optimised exhaust tuning for the mountune axle-back exhaust
• M380 + EXH TRACK - Same as above but aimed at track day users with pops and bangs removed to avoid excessive noise.
• M380 + TRACK - mountune M380 calibration with no pops for use with a standard exhaust on track to avoid excessive noise.
• Anti-theft mode - an additional layer of security that once enabled prevents the engine from starting.
• Standard base calibration.
As with all mTune, upto 6 gauges are also available to monitor OBD channels together with data-logging, performance meters for testing 0-60mph and 1/4mile times and fault-code reading.
M380 supports all EU Focus RS and is available now online at the mountune online store and from selected mountune dealers.
An RS M380 mTune-only option will be available for customers that have already purchased the required hardware, priced at £595 inc. VAT.
As well as the power kits, Phase 3 also included a lightweight axle-back exhaust saving over 3kg compared to the OE rear section. In addition, both the correct valve and motor are also supplied so there's no need to remove or swap across parts from the OE exhaust. CAD-designed and optimised, the axle back drops back-pressure - improving performance, brings your RS alive with the soundtrack it deserves and can be further optimised with the use of the exhaust calibration option on the M380 mTune handset.
A lightweight centre-section and sports cat downpipe are both in development to complement the axle-back exhaust.
As with all mountune products, these parts have been extensively tested at the Nürburgring, on dyno and proven over tens of thousands of road miles across multiple development vehicles to ensure perfect fitment, function and reliability.
Our updated Focus RS catalogue detailing our full range of power, transmission, interior and exterior upgrades is also now online, just click the image above to view it and if you missed it, why not check out part 1 of our Phase 3 video instalment below:
Part 2 of this video contains a lot of sideways tyre smoking action so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that... plus, we've got plenty more lined up for Focus RS owners over the coming months, in fact, you could say we're still only just getting started!
Today, mountune and Ford Performance announce their official power-boosting engine power upgrade kit for the mk3 Focus RS.
Ford Focus RS customers in the EU can now further enhance the award-winning performance of the acclaimed high-performance hatchback with the official Ford Performance by mountune power upgrade package.
The FPM kit includes a high-flow induction kit, uprated re-circulating valve, performance calibration and FPM badge, with a retail price of £899 inc. VAT.
Co-developed by mountune and Ford Performance, the approved upgrade boosts peak power from the specially engineered Ford 2.3‑litre EcoBoost engine by 25 PS to 375 PS and peak torque by 40 Nm to 510 Nm using overboost. The Ford Focus RS achieves improved 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration in 4.5 seconds with the top speed remaining at 165mph (266 km/h).
“Ford has a proud history of working with Mountune to unleash even more power from our hot hatchbacks for dedicated performance enthusiasts,” said Tyrone Johnson, vehicle engineering manager, Ford Performance. “Boosting power to 375 PS launches the already class-leading Focus RS even further ahead of the field.”
Any Mountune-appointed Ford dealer will be able to fit the upgrade in 1.5 hours and it is fully compatible with the Ford warranty, meaning Ford Performance by Mountune Focus RS vehicles will continue to be covered against mechanical failure.
