With the year barely underway, the mountune Racing team, together with thousands of industry professionals headed to the NEC in Birmingham for the annual pilgrimage to the Autosport International show. Located within the Engineering hall, the mountune stand exhibited a small selection of race-winning engines and high-performance components. As ever, the show proved a great success for the team who were kept busy discussing various new opportunities and updating our existing customers on our latest news and plans for 2017.



Further afield, mountune-powered race machinery was also easy to spot, like the eye-catching 2017 BTCC Team Shredded Wheat Focus ST and their recently announced driver lineup of Mat Jackson, Depper and Davenport. The covers also came off the newly announced RX2 support series, MRF’s single-seater was on display and the ever-impressive MONO was being exhibited by the BAC team… all of which being powered by mountune race engines.

YouTube celebrity and supercar enthusiast Tim Burton, rolled his Focus RS into the mountune workshop last week for its first upgrade. Known as Shmee150 to his millions of online fans, he was keen to see how mountune could upgrade his RS, and after weighing up the options offered, he decided on our warranted FPM375 Power Kit.

Camera in hand, Burton filmed and narrated as the induction kit, crossover duct, re-circulation valve and ECU calibration were fitted before taking it back out on the road, and the grin on his face during the drive summed it up. Describing the difference as “fascinating”, Burton said he could “feel that it's faster immediately”, before adding “You have more of that push back in the seat feel – and that is how you make a cool car, even cooler.”

Already a devotee of the 2016 Focus RS, Burton commented on the increased induction noise, quicker acceleration and improved torque since fitting the Ford approved mountune power upgrade kit, and with a selection of warranted performance parts also available, he considered his next move. “What more could you want?", he asked, “I‘m a big fan of the Focus RS, I love driving it, and now I feel like I love driving it even more,” he added in his video.

Burton was equally as impressed with his tour of mountune HQ – inspecting the engines being built by the racing team and admiring the red and gold Alan Mann Racing MK1 Escort. Spotting the GT40's in the workshop he commented that “you don’t realise how special those are”, and got excited for his incoming new generation Ford GT.

A drive in mountune's own Mk3 RS with the full M380 Power Upgrade Kit, Axle-Back Exhaust System and mountune wheels did even more to win him over. “It's like an addiction,” he says, giving the accelerator a little stab through a tunnel. “It’s a no-brainer really, to come down to mountune. A perfect car made even more perfect with the mountune kit.”

Blown away by the service in the mountune HQ Workshop, Shmee commented that the upgrades are “definitely worth doing”, and smiled in the knowledge that his drive back to London that day would be far more enjoyable after his mountune experience.

 MR265 POWER UPGRADE KIT

MK7 Fiesta ST MR265 Power Upgrade Kit:

The mountune Racing MR230 > MR265 upgrade offers existing MR230 Fiesta ST owners the chance to upgrade to a genuine 265PS and 370Nm experience.

MR265 maintains and combines impressive turbo response and silky-smooth drivability, with a relentless wall of torque that's mated in harmony with a top end that just wants to just keep revving! 

At the heart of the MR265 upgrade is the hybrid turbocharger - the standard unit was at its maximum safe operating limit around 230PS so the turbo has been substantially re-worked to provide the reliable uplift in performance required for MR265. Incorporated in the costs of all of the upgrade versions is also a new oil feed, required gaskets, studs and nuts, meaning the only thing the end-user requires is an oil and filter change - this must be performed after the new turbo has been installed and before the engine is run.

This kit is for customers that already have the MR230 hardware installed and require the following hardware to upgrade to MR265:

• mountune Hybrid turbocharger upgrade
• High-flow intake and turbo entry hard pipes
• Large-capacity intercooler (original mountune intercooler option also available)
• mTune MR265 calibration.
• New turbo oil feed / drain, gaskets and hardware.

Once upgraded, power increases to 265PS whilst torque is raised to 370Nm.

Mk7 Fiesta ST Large Capacity Intercooler

The mountune large capacity high performance alloy intercooler upgrade includes everything you need to release the ultimate performance from your mk7 Fiesta ST and is included as standard with the MR265 upgrade.

Using an 18-row extruded tube and fin core, the mountune alloy intercooler upgrade gives a marked improvement in both air charge temperature (ACT) and pressure drops, ensuring optimum charge air temperature and therefore power, is available from the potent 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine. 

Our large-capacity intercooler upgrade fully maximises the available package space, while retaining the essential parts of the OE air management ducting for the Ford cooling system.

Technical

The packaging for the OE intercooler and radiator on the mk7 Fiesta ST is very compact, leaving little space to effectively and safely install an upgraded intercooler. The mountune large-capacity intercooler upgrade was engineered to retain the essential parts of the original Ford cooling pack or air ducting system. This helps maintain engine cooling temperatures thereby avoiding "over-heat" conditions that reduce engine power. 

Careful consideration was given to the core design to ensure as well producing optimum charge cooling performance, airflow across the rest of the cooling pack be largely unaffected.

Engineered and manufactured from high strength alloy, the mountune PTU Brace Upgrade provides improved rigidity through robust CAD design and features an additional mounting point compared to the standard stamped steel part. 

As torque and power are increased over standard, the Focus RS' PTU casing can fail due to torsional load and strain caused from hard launches and aggressive driving.

For the 2016 season, the China Touring Car Championship saw various changes to the series format, including a new 2x 35km Race configuration, and mountune powered Changan Ford FRD Team also made some alterations to their championship campaign this year.
 


Completing in the Super Cup 2.0T class, progressing from the 1.6 category in 2015, the team signed British Driver Dan Wells who made history in 2016 as the first non-Chinese driver to race in the CTCC, competing in four of the eight meetings across the season, the maximum permitted for an international driver.

The Formula Racing Development owned manufacturers team saw great success this season with multiple pole positions, various individual podiums and several 1-2-3 finishes, and had done enough to take the 2016 Manufacturer's Title this weekend, before the final race in Shanghai Tianma circuit had even begun. 

 
Our mountune designed and built turbocharged EcoBoost engine powered all four of the Ford Focus 2.0T hatchbacks, upgraded from the saloon model of 2015, and contributed to the strong package that produced this winning results, that is car, team and driver.

Congratulations to the Changan Ford Racing team from all of us at mountune!

Unveiled in front of thousands of industry professionals and fans alike, Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s latest creation is as expected, wild to the eye, loud, and suitably equipped to destroy tyres in a matter of minutes... all with more than a little help from mountune!

It's fair to say that Vaughn's Focus RS is going to have a seriously tough life, spent largely at full-throttle and very, very sideways! To ensure the highest possible performance, Vaughn knew he needed quality upgrades that would both increase power output and maintain reliability, even in the toughest of scenarios.

The mountune uprated exhaust isolator helps ensure accurate alignment, particularly when attempting to DIY install the mountune cat-back exhaust, without proper access to the underside of the vehicle.

M380 DYNO MODE

Now available as part of all M380 upgrades and as a free update for all existing owners (via Access Port Manager), you can switch the RDU on and off from your mTune handset without having to touch, or do anything else!

With a sophisticated rear-split torque-vectoring system, the AWD system of the Focus RS can make being able to dyno your RS difficult, if not impossible. Our Dyno Mode fully disengages the interaction of the RDU (Rear Drive Unit) allowing power to be taken from the front wheels. This also means a 2WD dyno can be used if a 4WD dyno is not available.

Dyno Mode is accessed via: Calibrations > Adjustments  > Dyno Mode (On / Off)

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton recently had the opportunity to check out the home-grown mountune powered BAC Mono at the University of Manchester.  The latest Mono was being showcased at the university's National Graphene Institute and is the first car in the world to use graphene in its production process, featuring the lightweight material in the rear wheel arches. BAC claims that the graphene it uses is significantly lighter and stronger than carbon fiber and has 200 times the strength of steel.

While many carmakers source components from countries where labour is cheap, 95 per cent of the Mono's parts come from suppliers in the United Kingdom, including their 2.5L Duratec engine built by the Racing Team at mountune HQ in Essex, UK, which is fitted as standard to the BAC Mono. 

Prince William seemed more than impressed with the model, even slipping into the narrow cockpit for a photo opportunity.  According to BAC co-founder and director of product development Neill Briggs, “It was truly an honour to meet Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and a particular privilege to seat Prince William inside the Mono. We are incredibly proud to be British, and to meet members of the Royal Family was a surreal experience that just shows how far this company has come.”

Olsbergs MSE driver Kevin Eriksson took the Germany RX win this month in his mountune powered Ford Fiesta ST, claiming his first every victory in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.  Starting on the second row of the grid in the 2016 final, Eriksson stunned his competitors as he pulled off an epic sideways move from the outside and managed to take the lead, which he retained for the rest of the race.

“I am speechless,” explained Eriksson, who has become the seventh different winner in World RX this year.  “I saw Petter lead off the start and planned to stay behind him but then I saw an opportunity to go on the outside and hoped for the best. Somehow it worked! I felt I had really good speed throughout the weekend and to beat these guys you need to be driving at your very best. This weekend, everything came together and we got the consistency I needed to take the win.” 

The Ford-based Duratec 4-cylinder turbo engines, designed and built by mountune utilising an Olsbergs MSE head casting, are constantly undergoing vigorous programs of testing and development to further improve the engines performance output and reliability, and have powered the Olsbergs drivers to the podium on numerous occasions claiming four manufacturers and drivers' championship titles between 2011-2014.
