mountune powered Motorbase Performance celebrated a fantastic double win and podium during this weekends rounds on the UK’s fastest racing circuit, Thruxton.
There were early signs of a strong weekend during Saturday morning’s free practice sessions with both Motorbase Focus STs showing excellent pace at the top of the timing sheets. Qualifying sadly didn’t produce the same results and both Jordan and Jackson were left somewhat deflated ending the session in P8 and P14 respectively.
However, AJ immediately showed his intent as Sunday’s first race got underway, charging off the line in his mountune powered Focus ST to take MG pair Sutton and Cook as they entered the first corner. A frantic race ensued as the laps unfolded with Jordan’s Pirtek-backed Focus managing to avoid the chaos as the lead pack battled - trading positions and paintwork along the way. Having managed to work his way up into the top 10 in spite of carrying 39kg of ballast, Jackson’s charge was regrettably cut short with a spectacular puncture as the #7 Focus headed into Club on lap 10. Despite a perfectly executed pit-stop by the Motorbase crew, DUO-backed Jackson had to re-join at the back of the pack and could only muster a P21 finish. Jordan meanwhile managed to avoid a huge race-ending melee involving the lead pack on lap 11, taking full advantage of the opportunity to move the #77 Focus up into 3rd to claim his maiden podium for the Motorbase-run squad.
With race officials and Dunlop announcing new race distances shortened to 12 laps for the remaining two races, Jordan made his first move for the lead from lights out. Moving past Ingram’s Toyota to take 2nd Jordan then set his sights on race leader Morgan whilst fending off challenges from Collards’ lighter BMW. With 57kgs of ballast on-board, Jordan played the long-game keeping the pressure on Morgan whilst preserving his tyres before making his move on the Mercedes on lap 11 to take the race lead securing his first race win since joining the Motorbase squad and his first race win since 2014. An outstanding performance from Jackson saw the #7 Focus make up an incredible 12 places on the grid, earning the 35-year-old an impressive 8th place finish and further points for the Motorbase championship campaign.
The reverse grid draw for the final race of the day resulted in a front row start for Jackson in P2 with team-mate Jordan dropping into P9 with 75kg on-board. Jackson stormed off the line and straight past Welch to steal the race lead with the #7 Focus controlling the race to the chequered flag; collecting a 2nd race win of the weekend for the Motorbase squad and Jackson’s 2nd of the season. Unfortunately a reverse of fortunes for Jordan in the final race ended on a low point with the #77 Focus picking up a rear puncture on lap 7 eventually crossing the line in P21.
Motorbase Performance leaves Thruxton in a strengthened Championship position having extended its lead in the Independents Teams Standings and closed the gap on the Overall Teams Standings, while Jordan has moved into 2nd in the Independent Drivers Championship with Jackson close behind in 3rd and 4th in the Overall Drivers’ Standings. The mountune team look forward to the BTCC returning in four weeks’ time for rounds 10, 11 & 12 at Oulton Park on June 4/5.
mountune-powered Motorbase Performance celebrated a return to the rostrum at Donington Park this weekend securing its maiden race win of the season and a second placed podium during the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting of 2016... Starting behind the manufacturer-backed MG’s for race 1, Jackson stormed off the line to steal the lead in the #7 Focus. Under relentless pressure from a charging Cook, Jackson delivered a defensive masterclass holding off the competition to claim Motorbase’s first outright win of the season along with fastest lap honours.
With maximum 75kg ballast on-board, Jackson had a tough task ahead of him holding off the lighter following pack and an opening lap safety car did little to help the DUO-backed driver. Another faultless drive from Jackson saw him maintain the lead until Collard’s charging BMW pushed through to take the lead in the closing laps with the #7 Focus crossing the line in 2nd, securing the Independent race win.
"The weekend started really well for us. The car felt really strong in free practice and then we carried that through into qualifying where, despite our little mishap, we still managed to grab P3 which was a great result. We got a great jump on the MG’s in race 1 and managed to control the race all the way through. It’s always a good feeling to get that first win of the season under your belt and it’s encouraging that the car performed really well in race 2 again even with full ballast on-board" mountune-sponsored Jackson says.
The 2016 BTCC season got underway this weekend at Brands Hatch as no less than eight mountune-powered cars contensted the 1.2-mile Indy circuit.
Motorbase Performance’s 2016 BTCC campaign started strong as the team secured four top eight finishes during the championship’s season opener this weekend at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
Team drivers Andrew Jordan and Mat Jackson both took several top-5 finishes during the 3 races on Sunday leaving the Wrotham-based team sitting in second place in both the overall team standings and independent team standings.
mountune-sponsored Jackson added; "We're making great progress with the car since adopting the new regulation suspension changes and of course, my mountune engine performed faultlessly throughout the weekend".
Jordan and Jackson currently sit in 3rd and 5th respectively in the independent drivers’ championship, with Jordan joint-4th overall.
Elsewhere, turning a wheel in anger for the very first time were the quartet of mountune-powered Subaru Levorg's.
With the paint barely dry on the brand new Subaru builds the opening round was always going to be more of a glorified test day than anything else, but against the odds as well as collecting valuable data, former-champion's Jason Plato and Colin Turkington both managed to secure the teams' first championship points.
“Everyone at Team BMR deserves a huge amount of credit for what they have achieved here. To build these four cars and get them here running in the tail end of the points is superhuman. I have said all weekend that we weren’t concerned about results because it has been all about building up our knowledge and developing the car." Plato enthused.
Donington Park hosts rounds 4, 5 and 6 on the 16th/17th April.

With the 2016 BTCC season getting ever closer, this latest engine render gives a little more insight into the mountune powered Subaru Levorg Boxer engine, being developed for Team BMR.
In having been chosen as the official engine partner for BMR this season, David Mountain, mountune Racing’s Technical Director said, “We are thrilled to have been chosen to build the engines for BMR’s 2016 championship campaign, and very happy to be partnered with a manufacturer team. The development team here at mountune will be working around the clock getting the four Boxer engines ready for pre-season testing and are all looking forward to seeing them perform out on track during this years championship.”
Kevin Berry, Team BMR’s Chief Engineer added, “I am excited that mountune are on board to develop and build our engine for this project. With the extensive experience that mountune have in the BTCC and NGTC regulations, I am extremely confident that mountune have the expertise and ability to produce a great race engine from this unique Subaru base."
The 2.0 Turbocharged engines are being supplied for their four-strong team ahead of the 2016 Season Launch, held at Donington Park on March 22nd.
James Cole will join Team BMR for the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship to complete the line-up of the team for the forthcoming season.
Cole, previously powered by mountune driving for Motorbase Performance, where he completed the second half of the 2015 season, will be behind the wheel of the fourth new Subaru Levorg Sports Tourer along side confirmed team mates Colin Turkington, Jason Plato and Team Owner, Warren Scott.
When speaking with us on continuing his mountune powered collaboration, now running the 2.0 turbocharged boxer engine for BMR, Cole stated "Having seen first-hand how well mountune did with the Focus EcoBoost, I’m very excited to see what they can do with the new Subaru engine and RWD format."
Cole’s prior successes in rear wheel drive will be seen as an advantage to the Subaru UK manufacturer team and we look forward to seeing the car, driver and engine in action at the official BTCC Season Launch on 22nd March at Donington Park.
We are pleased to announce our involvement with Dextra Racing in the 2016 British Touring Car Championship. Run by Leicestershire based Team Parker, Dextra will run the same Motorbase Performance built Ford Focus ST as last year with some new upgrades, including our mountune 2.0 EcoBoost engine that made the headlines during the 2015 season.
In a video interview at the Autosport Show last month when talking of the Ford Focus and the mountune upgrade, team driver Alex Martin stated that his car will be “identical to Jordan’s” that he knows “the engine is competitive”.
Having now had an opportunity to test last season’s Focus with the new mountune Ford EcoBoost engine fitted, Martin’s clearly pleased with the results; "It’s always a struggle trying to get the power down in a front-wheel drive car, but the new engine is so smooth in how it delivers the power, I can already see how it’s going to massively improve the car. By some amazing feat of engineering, mountune have also managed to completely eradicate any sign of turbo lag too!"
Martin stated that this year, the car has been built to handle more like a touring car of old, and that he is looking forward to the more traditional driving style. Combine that with our mountune NGTC four-cylinder engine and there could be some serious points scored this season.
We are very pleased to announce our involvement with Maximum Motorsport in this year’s British Touring Car Championship. The Midlands based team, led by boss and driver Stewart Lines, will compete with a single Ford Focus ST on the grid this season, powered by mountune.
Lines stated that the car has to be “competitive and on par with the other Ford’s” therefore choosing the mountune 2.0 EcoBoost to ensure the car can reach its full potential. Lines added “We will try our hardest to be the most competitive we possibly can be for 2016. This is the hardest race series in the UK. It’s a challenge, but a very exciting one.”
The team plans to launch a maximum scale attack on the championship this year and we look forward to seeing the car in action.
mountune announces involvement with Team BMR in this year’s British Touring Car Championship as official engine partner...
mountune Racing Technical Director, David Mountain, was approached by BMR Team Manager, and industry friend Alan Cole, in regards to the build of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, following the signing of the deal with Subaru UK & Ireland at the end of 2015.
“We are thrilled to have been chosen to build the engines for BMR’s 2016 championship campaign, and very happy to be partnered with a manufacturer team.” said Mountain. “The development team here at mountune will be working around the clock getting the four Boxer engines ready for pre-season testing and are all looking forward to seeing them perform out on track during this year's championship.”
Team BMR Owner Warren Scott added, "I am very pleased and excited to be working with mountune on the development of the engine and I’m positive that with the very small time frame that we are faced with, they will produce a great engine in time for the Official BTCC Media Day on 22nd March at Donington Park."
Kevin Berry, Team BMR’s Chief Engineer added, "Having looked at all the options available to us for 2016 I am excited that mountune are on board to develop and build our engine for this project. With the extensive experience that mountune have in the BTCC and NGTC regulations, I am extremely confident that mountune have the expertise and ability to produce a great race engine from this unique Subaru base."
Team BMR is a strong contender for the 2016 title with four Subaru Levorg Sports Tourer’s out on the grid, and previous champions behind the wheel. Couple that with mountune’s successful 35 year racing history and it makes for a very dynamic partnership, and an exciting 2016 season.
