mountune powers Cook's WRC return

%AM, %27 %401 %2016 %08:%Jul Published in General News

We’re used to turning engines round quickly at mountune Racing - motorsport’s notorious for tight deadlines after all, but hearing the plight of rally-ace Louise Cook, we knew we’d have our work cut out on this one!

The call went something along these lines; “I need your help, my engine’s misfiring and cutting out, we’ve checked it and it’s got 3.2mm of end float and I’m supposed to be on a ferry to WRC Finland on Wednesday!”

Alarmingly, 3.2mm of end float was about 3mm too much, suggesting there was going to be a bit of a mess waiting for us in the bottom end… oh, and this was Thursday, so we literally had a day to identify what had failed, what had caused it and, to give Louise something back she could still make the rally with… nothing like a deadline to focus the mind.

Louise is competing in an R2 Fiesta which uses a 1.6-litre Sigma Ti-VCT, fitted with the homologated upgrades from MSport, comprising largely of steel rods, forged pistons and wilder camshafts.

On arrival Thursday night, the sump was removed from Louise’s engine and as expected, the thrust washer had disintegrated with a section of the crankshaft effectively acting as a bearing – the result? A swarf-filled mess.

As luck would have it, we had a brand new standard Sigma engine sat in our stores so a plan was hatched overnight to retain the head from the original engine and rebuild the rest into the new bottom end.

Friday began in a bit of a blur as two of our highly-skilled engine builders stripped the original engine, cleaned all the carryover components through a multi-stage cleaning process and then with everything prepared, the rebuild could begin.

Putting engines together is second-nature, so the build itself went off without any major issues and by mid-afternoon we were in a position to call Louise with the good news, “Your new engine’s ready if you want to come and pick it up?”

After realising her dream to get to WRC Finland was still well and truly alive, we were promptly joined by a beaming Louise and Stefan (her co-driver), armed with a transit van and an obvious sense of urgency.

The guys spent the weekend getting the engine fitted back in the car together with a host of other new transmission parts (collected in person as far afield as Belgium), which left them with just a day to fire it back up and run it in before heading to Finland.

We’re pleased to say they made it after putting in numerous all-nighters and at the time of writing this, Louise and Stefan are about to return to professional rallying for the first time since winning her class in 2012!

Good luck from all of us at mountune.

%PM, %15 %610 %2016 %13:%Jun Published in General News

The second of our three-phase performance parts release has been unveiled today, the majority of which are available to purchase from both mountunestore and mountuneusa now!

Building on the initial range of Phase 1 styling upgrades and bolt-on performance parts, the Phase 2 RS release focuses on improving and maintaining performance.
The range features a power enhancing induction kit, charge pipe kit, intercooler and re-circ valve together with chassis / transmission upgrades.

As with all mountune products, these parts have been extensively tested at the Nürburgring, on dyno and proven over tens of thousands of road miles across multiple development vehicles to ensure perfect fitment, function and reliability.

Customers waiting for news on our forthcoming power upgrade will be reassured to know, the wait is very nearly over, as will be seen in our final launch instalment. Whilst we appreciate that the lack of news is frustrating to a great number of you, we're sure you'll all understand why when details are revealed as part of Phase 3 launch... and hope that you'll also agree that the wait was certainly worth it.

Focus RS Phase 1 Upgrades Available

%PM, %29 %621 %2016 %13:%Apr Published in New Products

Today marks the release of the first phase of mountune Mk3 Focus RS performance upgrades, all of which are available to purchase from both mountunestore and mountuneusa now!

This initial phase features a selection of easy first-off modifications to improve induction noise and performance, provide shorter gear-shifts, inhibit excessive engine movement and allow interior and exterior personalisation.

As with all mountune products, these parts have been extensively tested to ensure perfect fitment, function and reliability.

With early access to development mules, calibrations and strategies, the range of upgrades and performance parts soon to be available from mountune is extensive to say the least. We're sure you'll agree too, as you follow our phased product launches.

Where's the MP power upgrade?!

The new Focus RS MK3 is one of the most exciting and dynamically advanced Ford road cars, and wears the coveted RS badge with pride. Our engineering programme to reliably extract more power and torque, whilst ensuring proper interaction with all of the cars dynamic modes, suspension and launch control has necessitated an extended durability Sign-Off.

The kit has been finalised after tens of thousands of mileage accumulation, data collection and high-speed work at the Nürburgring. However, as our final Sign-Off is not yet complete, the kit contents, cost and power figures cannot be confirmed at this time – they may still be subject to change, even at this late stage.

What we can share with you is that the power and torque improvements are very noticeable, as is the reduction in 0-60mph time and other performance attributes.

The MP kit, including its contents and all of the surrounding information we know you’re eagerly awaiting, will be revealed in the final phase of our RS launch, at which point it will be immediately available to purchase and have installed.

In the meantime, we invite you to watch our Phase 1 video below and if you didn't sign up to our Racing Line newsletter and missed the exclusive first-look at our exciting new RS performance parts catalogue, worry not as you'll be able to see it for yourself soon. 2016 BTCC Season Opener

%PM, %04 %707 %2016 %15:%Apr Published in Motorsport

The 2016 BTCC season got underway this weekend at Brands Hatch as no less than eight mountune-powered cars contensted the 1.2-mile Indy circuit.

Motorbase Performance’s 2016 BTCC campaign started strong as the team secured four top eight finishes during the championship’s season opener this weekend at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

Team drivers Andrew Jordan and Mat Jackson both took several top-5 finishes during the 3 races on Sunday leaving the Wrotham-based team sitting in second place in both the overall team standings and independent team standings.

mountune-sponsored Jackson added; "We're making great progress with the car since adopting the new regulation suspension changes and of course, my mountune engine performed faultlessly throughout the weekend".

Jordan and Jackson currently sit in 3rd and 5th respectively in the independent drivers’ championship, with Jordan joint-4th overall.

Elsewhere, turning a wheel in anger for the very first time were the quartet of mountune-powered Subaru Levorg's.

With the paint barely dry on the brand new Subaru builds the opening round was always going to be more of a glorified test day than anything else, but against the odds as well as collecting valuable data, former-champion's Jason Plato and Colin Turkington both managed to secure the teams' first championship points.

“Everyone at Team BMR deserves a huge amount of credit for what they have achieved here. To build these four cars and get them here running in the tail end of the points is superhuman. I have said all weekend that we weren’t concerned about results because it has been all about building up our knowledge and developing the car." Plato enthused.

Donington Park hosts rounds 4, 5 and 6 on the 16th/17th April.
